Soaring Discussion Groups
HGC Group - on Yahoo! Groups
RAS - the Usenet group rec.aviation.soaring
For those who are not familiar with newsgroups, here are the basic differencesbetween RAS and our HGC Yahoo Group:
1 - RAS has housands of participants vs few hundreds in HGCgroup.
2 - RAS is suitable for any soaring related topic, vs more specific HGC-related topics
3 - RAS has much more traffic, topics, occasional flaming, and occasional spams.
4 - RAS is open so your post can be read by anyone including your wife or your boss (so don't write about that great flight when you called in sick ;-), and messages are archived indefinitely. HGCGroup is open to subscribers only, subscription is moderated (but your wife or your boss may subscribe as well). and messages can be moderated if we so decide.
5 - RAS posts will show up on any search engine, HGCGroup posts can only be searched by subscribers.
I recommend anyone who would like to be informed to browse RAS occasionally, and also to use it as a research tool to find answers to your questions. Post at your own risk...
